In addition to our residential faculty, our online program offers classes and workshop by well-known visiting writers such as Heather Hartley, Laurie Ann Guerrero, Natalie Diaz, Liz Sched and Dennis Bush. Double majors in English and English Writing are exempt from the 56-hour rule and must complete 63 hours total for both majors. The Creative Writing Program is a course of study with the flexibility for students to initiate a variety of literary lives through exposure to a range of aesthetics, a global literary orientation, course work in historical and contemporary literary forms, and interaction with visiting authors and scholars. Students also learn from prominent visiting writers at our annual Festival of Writing in the Spring. They really could create a community. Our innovative and trend-setting curriculum balances a care for the literary heritage of English with the experience of contemporary literary experimentation and interpretative theories. In many scholars' estimation the Internet will have a more profound impact upon society than did the printing press. At the undergraduate level, we offer a full range of Creative Writing courses that guide the student through Introductory to Advanced courses, with Special Topics courses along the way. You can't write a book without getting feedback, because you're too close to the work. Qualifying undergraduates interested in pursuing creative writing on the graduate level are encouraged to work with a faculty mentor on a creative writing Honors Thesis.
